Solar Sound Field | John Ensor Parker, T. Kelly Wilson, Timothy Dunne, Richard Kress, Peter Hansen, Christoph Timm, Peter Coombe, Allen Slamic, John Reed

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Parker was invited to participate in the above referenced team in a design competition called the Land Art Generator Initiative (LAGI) to design and construct public art installations that have the added benefit of large scale clean energy generation. The design shall continuously distribute clean energy into the electrical grid, with each having the potential to provide power to thousands of homes. In January of 2010 LAGI put out an international call to artists, architects, scientists, and engineers to come up with both aesthetic and pragmatic solutions for the 21st century energy crisis. The 2010 LAGI design competition was held in the United Arab Emirates.

The final design was a series of solar chimneys with viewing chambers below. The updraft through the chimneys generated composed sounds that are experienced within the chambers. Parker was enlisted by the team to perform engineering and design calculations.
